Yup. Finally cancelled my Macy's card for good and realize I have no good reason to shop there.
Their merchandise can be purchased under better circumstances elsewhere and what is not available elsewhere is poor quality Macy's brand merchandise. I was just charged $23 for a $45 payment due January 25 that I paid February 1. I asked for a break because the penalty was nearly as much as I owed. The billing clerk, Edelene Neri, asked why my payment was late and I said because my Mother is dieing and I had to fly across the country for ten days to get her into hospice and was not thinking about bills that were due.
Ms. Neri didn't skip a beat and said I was already getting a break and they were not charging me as much as they could, which begs the questions—why did she bother asking and I f your Mom dieing is not a good enough reason to be late on a payment, what is? I have had issues with Macy's before but get sucked back in by some deal if you use your card. I think the answer is to just shop elsewhere.
They use the card to rip you off, and what they're selling in the environment they're selling it in are not worth it. I'm also going to talk to the State Attirney Generals Office about whether their credit practices qualify as extortion under State law, because they should.
