Complaint / review text:
I have been a loyal Macy's customer for most of my life, and a Macy's card holder for over 10 years.in September 2011, I purchased a few work shirts for my husband, on sale, and the total was $38.55.
I used the Bill Pay online, as I usually do... And never thought about it again. On December 24, I received a Collection notice for a total of $139.64. Yes, over $100 in late fees were apparently added to the balance, because my payment did not go through.
I called the number listed on the letter. The supervisor said he would 2 fees, but I still would owe $69 and some change. I couldn't believe it, on a $38 bill? I asked that all of the fees be waved due to this never happening before and my credit score, etc...
The answer was no. Since I was talking to a "Collection Agency", I figured that I would call Macy's directly. I spoke with another supervisor there, who explained that they could only 2 fees in one year. I explained my situation to him, and he still refused to budge.
I then asked if he thought that $30 was worth loosing a valued customer, and he said "do what you have to do"... So I closed my account! Thousands upon thousands of dollars have been spent by myself and family... And many more thousands were in Macy's future from our pocket book!
But, because they could not wave those fees and accept my $38.55, I will never go into their store again! My extended family will boycott as well!
That is how one runs a business into the ground!
