Just had a CSR tell me that Kohls Dept Store locks you out of your credit card online account so you cannot make payments online if you are past due... And when you call them to make a payment they charge you $10 for doing it over the telephone. That just happened to me.
It doesn't really matter that it was a surgery that caused me to be late; it is the idea that one is force into a "cattle chute" (so to speak) to not only help KOHLS FINANCE STORE get that "minimum" payment but also get the additional $10 charge for handling payment over the phone.
It is not the ten dollars - it is the idea of being corralled and lied to. Spoke with the CSR Supervisor to verify I had the correct information; wherein, not only was that lockout procedure confirmed, he also said if a customer objects to the $10 phone charge then the CSR can waive the fee. I did object but was told that the "rule" was $10 for telephone payments. This supervisor was very nice and said if I called back in a couple of days we could negotiate the $10 telephone payment charge... And I do appreciate that but it is the 'idea' of what is happening more than anything else.
So bye, bye Kohls - it is not the great service in the stores or the products, it is the underhandedness of doing business with you - especially at time a when people are suffering from job loss and trying to make ends meet
