I wanted to inform anyone with questions...
Today, I recieved a collection letter in the mail. From Convergent Outsourcing, suggestion that they are collecting a debt from me, with Verizon as their client. The debt stated was an astonishing $9,209.12! Of course, they offered to settle if I pay them a mere $4,604.56 today.
Several things struck me as odd.
First: My name is wrong.
Second: I haven't had an account with Verizon in over 12 years.
Third: They gave me a P. O. Box to send the payment to.
NOW. I am awaiting information from my credit to see if they have succeeded in any way to blemish my report (which I have worked VERY hard to bring back to life after a divorce). As I await this information, I decided to call Verizon directly. It turns out, that they have no current or PAST records of an account for me, whether up-to-date or delinquent.
I do plan to report this phishing scam in some way, as soon as I find the best next step. Any advice would be appreciated, as to the most appropriate way to procede.
