Complaint / review text:
My mother and I went to Payless Shoes in Chandler, AZ on 9/10/13 to look for some slippers for my father. Upon arrival we were greeted by the store manager Lala M and she showed us the slippers they had. After some consideration we decided not to purchase any shoes at all and left the store.
As we were leaving, we see Lala leaving as well. My mom and I decided to go next door to Family Dollar and we just figured it was a coincidence that the same manager ended up at the same store. We made our purchases and left the store. Lala walked out at the same time and asked "if we found better shoes" and we told her we found something temporary and she just laughed and walked backed into Payless.
As we got into our vehicle the Lala walks out with an empty box and approaches our vehicle and says "she just got a call from corporate" regarding missing shoes in the area my mother and I were and that I was last one looking at those shoes! She then demanded to look in our purses (which is not even legal). However, since we had NOTHING to hide, we opened our purses. At that point I was livid and asked her what shoes were missing, if it was the pair I was originally going to purchase and she said no she has those.
We decided to get off the truck and go back into Payless because I told her I wanted to know what shoes she was talking about. Well, low and behold it was the pair of shoes that we knew my father would not even want and I never even touched the box she was referencing! She said she was just doing "her job" and had us open our purses again in that area for the "cameras".
I told her I wanted the # for corporate as this was not going to stay this way. After filing my complaint an "internal investigation" was conducted and Payless Shoes felt like their associate had no wrong doing, and they closed the case.
After all these years as a customer i have never had anything happen like this at all. I am very disappointed on how payless shoes treats their customers after being a company who thrives for excellent customer service! I will never shop at payless shoes again-they have lost 2 valuable customers and as i have told our story to our family and friends they have also decided to boycott payless shoes! This was nothing to do with monetary gain as all, the only thing we wanted was an apology from the store manager and payless shoes source, however, they do not care about their customers it is only about their associates!
