I noticed I had a recurring charge on my credit card for $17.95. By the time I noticed it, there were four charges stacked up. I had been paying off my credit card each month but I never looked at all the individual purchases. My first charge was August 5,2013. So today (12/3/13) I looked online to cancel. I figured if it was an online service I could cancel online. Wrong. So I called their customer support number to 1) cancel this subscription account and 2) get a full refund of $71.80. Be prepared to wait upwards of 5-10 minutes to even get someone.
When I got someone on the line they weren't helpful. He said he didn't know the policies for a refund, but that he could cancel my account. He also said I had two open accounts, one dating back to 2005. Wow. Thankfully, no charges were on that account. He transferred me to a supervisor who was absolutely rude. She kept cutting me off when I asked a question and she kept explaining their "services" and that they are a legitimate business. I just cancelled my account for paying four months of a service I never used so why would I care about anything else they offered?
When asking for a refund she kept refusing, "We don't reimburse for service subscriptions." I never used it, never bought anything from STAMPS.com, so why was I getting charged? She said they send emails of reminders to pay each statement which I said was incorrect. She then confirmed my email account as the one they had on file and said, "Yes, we sent you an email in July." Um... Ok, that was 6-7 months ago. That's not a reminder every statement. I kept pushing for a refund and she kept denying, "We can't give refunds." Then she said, "What I can do is try to get your last month refunded." So ok, they CAN offer refunds. I argued with her about it and she said, "I said I can TRY. I didn't say I COULD."
Five minutes of waiting and she got back on to tell me she could get my last two months authorized for a refund. I said how about the whole four months and she snapped back saying it was only out of "courtesy" that I was even getting anything back. Even then she asked, "Is this what you want?" Yea I want a refund, but now I have to beg for it or show appreciation for a partial refund? I told her I saw online other complaints where people got 6 months refunded or all but the first month, and she said refunds are done on a case by case scenario. I'm in the same scenario. I don't get it.
Nevertheless, I took the pitiful partial refund and will be looking into disputing the charges with my credit card. Do not use this service. I've never ran into this situation where I couldn't get a refund for a service I never used. They have a scam business model through and through. After the phone call I checked my email and it said my refund still needs to be authorized and that I may be charged for a final month. Please save yourself the trouble and do not even go to this website. It's not USPS (which is what I originally thought). It's a scam.in the end, you aren't paying for a service at all. I was told you're paying for "usage of your account." Which isn't tracked so they can have even less accountability.
