Lack of response. Unauthorised billing.

I note that there are only 592 satisfied MTN customers out of 13433 who lodged a complaint on this site - that is a mere 4%.
I wanted to migrate my cell number over to prepaid, and therefore cancel my contract with MTN.
I made sure that I notified MTN well in advance. My email dated 30.11.2014, and subsequent reminder 7.12.2014 refers.
On 11.12.2014 I received an email from Precious Seakatsie confirming my request to cancel the contract "... Please be advised of the contract expiry date: 2015-01-28..."
On 17.12.2014 I received the following response from Tatum Love "... Please be advised that your notice has been escalated to our retentions department in order for us to have the contract cancelled. TEAM, please assist..." Reference Number: 9210741
Soon after the 'expiry' of the contract I took my sim card to the local MTN outlet to convert it to 'pre-paid' / 'pay -as - you-go". This was duly done by the staff member. I then bought MTN pre - paid air time and loaded it to the phone.
