Booked my Cathay Pacific flights on 10/26/2012 for my Dec 8 flight from LAX-HKG-LAX after clearly understanding Cathay Pacific and AsiaMiles published upgrade policy. Booked higher cost Economy classes for each flight; transferred 70K points from AMEX to AsiaMiles and was placed on waitlist for roundtrip Business Class upgrades only to be wait-listed - indefinitely.
Cathay's response to my inquiries/calls was, "We are working on it [your upgrades]. 12/5 my wait-listed status disappeared. I called Cathay only to find out their upgrade rules changed on 12/4. Upgrades from Economy to Business Class are no longer allowed for the class of ticket I purchased.
Although AsiaMiles site states differently. Cathay's response? Sorry, no upgrade, no miles refund. Basically I am SOL.
Cathay stalled my upgrade until they could void the request based upon their new rules. Unethical and dishonest business practices.
